About Me

I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Cardiff Metropolitan University and a Master’s Degree in Child Development at UCL. My Research

One in seven 10-19-year olds experiences a mental health disorder. Emerging research shows that individuals’ beliefs about the extent to which emotions can be controlled play a major role in mental health. However, we lack knowledge about the origins of these beliefs. My research project will investigate the measurement and development of emotion controllability beliefs. I plan to first evaluate current measures of emotion beliefs through a systematic review. Then, I will use a mixed-methods approach (existing and novel measures) to examine associations between parenting, emotion controllability beliefs, and children’s mental health longitudinally.

Impact of My Research

I aim to contribute to the theoretical understanding of emotion controllability beliefs by exploring the psychometric properties of current assessment methods and their temporal stability. Further, I will empirically examine the nature of the longitudinal relationship between emotion controllability beliefs and mental health. The findings of this project have the potential to advance the development of measures and preventative interventions benefiting mental health professionals and the general public.
