About Me
In my academic background, encompassing a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in War & Psychiatry, I was fortunate to receive several distinctions. Chief among these was the Anette Karmiloff-Smith Prize, awarded for achieving the highest grade in my cohort and for finishing first in my class. I was also honoured with a nomination for the national Experimental Psychology Society Prize. I am, in the broadest sense, a devotee of psychological inquiry, and devote much of my time to reflecting upon the larger philosophical questions it inevitably raises. My chief motivation is to contribute, however modestly, to the enlargement of human understanding concerning the reasons for our actions and the nature of our conduct.
My Research
My research efforts encompass the study of how gravity effects the human brain, particularly on matters concerned with social cognition such as those related to emotion processing. As a constant and inescapable condition of terrestrial life, gravity has stood throughout evolution as a quiet but decisive force in the shaping of the human brain. To examine its role is thus to gain insight not only into the origins of our cognitive architecture, but also into the subtle ways in which fundamental physical forces continue to underlie human thought and feeling.
Impact of My Research
Astronauts have long documented notable psychosocial changes during periods spent in space, including alterations in mood, perception, and interpersonal dynamics. Recognising the implications of gravity on social cognition is therefore crucial for ensuring both the safety and success of manned space missions, where cooperative functioning and emotional stability are indispensable. Moreover, an understanding of how a fundamental physical force shapes human cognition may illuminate novel aspects of brain function more generally.
