About Me

I am a PhD student based at Centre for Longitudinal Studies at University College London. My academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the European University of Madrid, followed by a Master of Science in Psychiatric Research from King’s College London. Over the years, I have gained valuable interdisciplinary experience working in mental health clinics and research centres, this inspired me to further interdisciplinary research in such fields.

My Research

My research focuses on the relationship between educational attainment and criminal activity. Using linked administrative data from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and the Department for Education (DfE), we seek to unveil patterns of engagement in criminal activity and how educational attainment shapes and is shaped by this, especially among diverse groups, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The project is also likely to include analyses of the linked MoJ and DfE data in conjunction with the Millennium Cohort Study and Next Steps, two major UK longitudinal studies run by the Centre or Longitudinal Studies. This would permit an in-depth investigation of the mechanisms underlying associations observed in the administrative data, including the role of mental health and factors from earlier in life.

Impact of My Research

This study will contribute to the current understanding of the complex interplay between educational attainment and criminal activity. The findings will be instrumental in informing and shaping tailored strategies and policies that aimed at mitigating the factors that contribute to criminal behaviour, ultimately working towards reducing crime rates and improving educational outcomes, thereby creating a positive societal impact.
