About Me

I am a research student at UCL, IoE department of Education, Practice and Society.

After completing my first degree (BSc, Chemistry with Management Science, Imperial), I worked in industrial marketing (mining and detergent industries). I subsequently ran my own business, specialising in multinational and multilingual B2B customer and employee surveys. Moving to the third sector I managed a medical membership society for nine years before beginning my master’s degree MRes, Social Research UCL IoE 2024).

In addition to my academic work, I am married with 2 daughters and 1 granddaughter, enjoy the theatre, dance regularly and am past chair and current classes convenor of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, London Branch.

My Research

My research interest concerns the social and cultural factors influencing women doctors’ career progression.

I propose to take a mixed methods approach to explore the influence of gender and parenthood on women’s medical careers and wellbeing, and to assess how well any findings may apply to other professions. Additionally, from a management perspective, I aim to gain an understanding of the challenges inherent in ensuring continuity of care, team working, organisational efficiency, whilst supporting dual career families and part time working.

Impact of My Research

I hope to contribute towards workforce policy development to support and extend women doctors’ participation in medicine, benefiting both individuals and society.
