Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

UBEL are committed to addressing inequalities and widening participation in our doctoral training partnership.

UBEL's commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

UBEL is committed to promoting diversity and equality through the development of fair and equitable policies, procedures, and academic programmes of study. Our ambition is to become a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive provider of doctoral education, committed to valuing the lived experiences of PGRs and our staff.

Our plan will ensure that EDI is central to everything we do as a partnership. For UBEL this means listening to and understanding different views to create an inclusive working and learning environment where everyone is treated with respect and valued for the skills and knowledge they bring to our partnership.

How do UBEL assess equal opportunities?

UBEL uses a qualitative approach to assessing equal opportunities at the studentship application stage. As well as a mandatory equal opportunities monitoring form, UBEL asks that candidates complete an “Additional Information” form as part of their funding application. This is to inform a DTP sub-panel of any special circumstances or difficulties that candidates may have overcome in achieving their education.

This form will be reviewed by a separate sub-panel of DTP staff, with subsequent recommendations made to academic reviewers. Staff involved with the assessment of your preliminary application will not have access or be permitted to view this form.
