About Me:

I studied Theology at Cambridge University as an undergrad and then did an MA in Psychosocial Studies (with a focus on the history and culture of psychoanalysis) at Birkbeck. I’ve done a little bit of psychotherapy training and I’ve worked as a Healthcare Assistant in acute mental health units in London.

My Research:

Using systemic and interpersonal lenses, my research will investigate patient and staff experiences of staff kindness & unkindness in NHS acute mental-health inpatient care, and the impact of shame on kindness and unkindness. I’ll be using ethnographic methods, cultural and affect theory, and “participatory” methods with “service user engagement” (hopefully in a meaningful way!)

Impact of My Research:

I hope to contribute to improving the experiences of inpatients by understanding how, within a complex, intense and constrained system, unkindness can be interrupted & subverted and how kindness can be facilitated and prioritised.
