About Me

I’m Heyi Zhang from China, currently pursuing a PhD at the UCL ESRC International Centre for Lifecourse Studies in Health and Society. I hold an MSc in Social Epidemiology from UCL, and a BSc in Biosciences from the University of Liverpool in conjunction with Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (two years in China and two years in the UK). Beyond research, I enjoy swimming, drumming, badminton, movies, and spending time with pets, but I hate the heat, long commute and any insects in my room.

If you’re interested in my research or life as a PhD student at UCL, please do not hesitate to get in touch — I’d be more than happy to share with you 🙂

My Research

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) pose a substantial health and economic burden in England. Grounded in a lifecourse framework, my PhD research aims to understand how work-family life history impacts CVD by using multi-channel sequence analysis and mediation analysis with survival data from the latest wave of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing.

Impact of My Research

My research will identify work-family life course types linked to increased later-life CVD risk and provide insights to potential mechanisms, guiding policymakers in early, targeted interventions.

My research implications extend to major UK employers, government bodies like the DWP (Dept for Work and Pensions) and OHID (Office for Health Improvement and Disparities), and charities such as Age UK and British Heart Foundation. These entitles stand to gain valuable insights for enhancing health policies and practices.

My findings will be effectively disseminated through UCL’s press office and platforms like the WorkLife blog, ensuring reach from policymakers to the public and influencing both policy and personal health decisions.
