About Me
An experienced healthcare and education practitioner and graduate of University of Edinburgh, UCL and Bath Spa University. My academic and professional career has revolved around addressing health and educational inequality. My post-graduate research project continues me on this journey and allows me to further contribute to addressing these social issues
My Research
My research project is part of EQUALISE, a collaborative research programme that aims to address the widening health inequalities in the UK.
The project examines the role of playgroups in reducing loneliness and isolation amongst parents and questions whether playgroups are a supportive mechanism in shaping parenting skills.
Impact of My Research
Without adequate support, adjusting to the demands of parenthood can result in parents’ mental health and wellbeing deteriorating; a risk further exacerbated for those vulnerable to inequality.
Ensuring parents are adequately supported is a critical contributor to nurturing children’s early childhood experiences and thereby safeguarding children’s futures.
With the overarching aim of improving early childhood experiences and narrowing the inequality gap in the UK, the research findings will offer an insight into whether playgroups are an effective supportive mechanism to vulnerable parents and thereby have the potential to shape future policies around parental support.
