The pathway includes two institutions, drawing on a strong, diverse group of quantitative researchers with long-standing links across many disciplines that facilitate co-supervision and understanding of methods across the social sciences. It has major strengths in methodology and application of quantitative methods to provide cutting-edge training, so that PGRs enhance quantitative methods and skills and address ESRC priorities.

UBEL houses some of the most important longitudinal datasets in the UK and CLOSER. The Centre for Longitudinal Studies houses four of the UK’s national cohort studies (the NCDS, BCS, MCS and Next Steps) and is on the management team for new ones: the Early Life Cohort Feasibility Study, Children of the 2020s, and the COSMO study. ICH leads CLEVER and the new ECHILD study (ESRC ADRUK-funded). The pathway unites these in a world-class quantitative research environment that will attract high quality students.
